There is exciting news for fans of the Metal Gear franchise as hopes grow for the arrival of Metal Gear Solid 4 on modern consoles. After spending more than a decade on the PlayStation 3, players might soon be able to enjoy this classic title on current-gen systems and PC.
In 2022, Konami launched the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which spotlighted the first five entries in the acclaimed action-stealth series. The collection includes memorable titles such as Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Since that release, anticipation has surged among fans for the re-release of Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid 4, which has been a PlayStation 3 exclusive since its debut in 2008. Enthusiasts are also speculating about the possibility of a second volume of the Master Collection, especially after placeholder buttons for Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker were spotted on the official website last June.
Recently, in an interview with IGN, Konami producer Noriaki Okamura hinted that there are plans in motion regarding this beloved title. When asked about the potential for a modern launch of Metal Gear Solid 4, Okamura noted that the team is aware of the significant interest surrounding the game.
While he expressed regret at not being able to disclose more information at this time, he encouraged fans to stay tuned for updates as the team considers the future of the series. Currently, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is accessible on various platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, suggesting that Metal Gear Solid 4 could finally make its multi-platform debut after 16 years.
