Capcom’s recent release, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, has not lived up to the company's sales forecasts. In a discussion targeted at shareholders, Capcom acknowledged that the game, despite receiving favorable reviews from both critics and gamers, fell short of anticipated sales figures.
Launched on July 19, this action strategy game draws inspiration from Japanese folklore and is Capcom's latest original intellectual property, available on platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, personal computers, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S, along with its debut on Game Pass. An evaluation from a well-known gaming outlet awarded it a commendable score of 8/10, praising its intriguing blend of mechanics and striking visual style.
Capcom identified the primary reason for the game's lackluster performance as inadequate marketing efforts and a failure to build excitement among potential players before its release. Although there was speculation about how its arrival on Game Pass might have influenced sales, Capcom did not clarify this aspect during their discussion.
Nevertheless, the company remains committed to promoting Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess in hopes of reaching its sales goals. While this title may not have achieved the anticipated success, Capcom’s other recent games, including the Dead Rising Deluxe Revamp, Ace Attorney Investigations Compilation, and Marvel versus. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, have performed well in the market.
Additionally, there are high expectations for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, scheduled for release in February 2025, and early feedback suggests it could be very successful. Capcom appears to be preparing for its upcoming major launch with confidence.
