Meta Quest 3 is introducing a new app that enables users to measure real-world objects. Known as Layout, this app was released on Monday as part of the Meta Quest v68 update for the mixed-reality headset. The new application provides users with the ability to measure tangible items and position virtual objects according to specified dimensions. Its primary purpose is to assist individuals in visualizing the appropriate size of furniture and other objects for their home before making purchases.
The utility app was revealed in a blog post by Meta on Monday. Once the update is installed, users will find the app available in the Meta Quest App Library. The Layout app requires 139.28MB of free storage space to download. It currently supports English (UK and US) and Spanish languages. Additionally, the app functions with touch controls and can be used offline.
Layout acts as a measuring and visualization tool, aiding users in confirming the dimensions of furniture or appliances before buying. It allows users to measure existing furniture before visiting a physical store or when shopping online. The app also enables users to place virtual furniture in real-world settings and measure those dimensions to ensure they are selecting the correct size.
Moreover, Layout features a leveling tool that helps users ensure that items such as photo frames or smart TVs mounted on walls are horizontally aligned or if they are tilted. The app can measure objects in terms of length, width, and height, providing a three-dimensional reference point.
In addition to the Layout app, the Meta Quest v68 update also incorporates Meta AI Vision and chatbot capabilities as announced last week. Users of Meta Quest 3 can utilize these features as the official assistant for the device. Meta AI is equipped to address general inquiries and can observe real-world settings through the mixed-reality headset's passthrough feature, answering questions related to those surroundings.
