Samsung has announced that it will discontinue support for DeX for PC with the introduction of its new operating system, One UI 7. This change is set to take place early next year when One UI 7 is expected to launch alongside the next generation of Galaxy S series devices. DeX, which stands for Desktop eXperience, was first introduced in 2017 and allowed users to connect their Android smartphones or tablets to an external display, providing a desktop-like interface for enhanced productivity. Furthermore, it offered capabilities for connecting to PCs, enabling access to mobile features directly on desktop systems.

In a recent update regarding DeX, Samsung has confirmed through its DeX for PC page that support will conclude with the release of One UI 7. Users are encouraged to transition to the Link to Windows app for continued access to their phone's features on Windows 10 or Windows 11 PCs, which promises a similar multitasking experience.

The Link to Windows application allows users to sync their smartphones with PCs, streamlining navigation and allowing access to apps and messages on a single screen. This application facilitates various functions, including media transfer, responding to calls and messages, managing notifications, and sharing links, all without needing to touch the phone.

Currently, this app is integrated into newer Galaxy gadgetry and are additionally available for download from the Google Play Store for those with older models. Despite the discontinuation of DeX for PC, Samsung reassures users that Galaxy smartphone owners will still have the ability to connect their devices to external displays and other accessories through DeX, ensuring that certain functionalities will remain intact.
